MBDA and Thales partner with WZU Grudziadz and with ZM Tarnow for the production and the logistical support of the “Wisla” air and missile defence system
On December 22, 2014 MBDA and Thales signed two Letters of Intent (LOI) with Wojskowe Zakłady Uzbrojenia S.A. (WZU) giving Polish Industry full autonomy in the production and maintenance of the Missile Launchers and Missile Reloaders, as well as system responsibility for the maintenance of the overall “Wisla” medium range air and missile defence programme.
Under the first agreement, WZU Grudziadz will be given the responsibility for the production of Aster 30 Block 1 and Aster 30 Block 1 NT Missile Launchers with the establishment of a Missile Launcher Final Assembly Line in Poland. WZU together with Polish industry will produce major equipment for the Aster 30 missile Launchers and Reloaders; be responsible for the maintenance of the Missile Launchers and Reloaders; and training throughout the serviceable life of the “Wisla” system. WZU will also be involved in the design and evolution of the Aster 30 Block 1 Reloaders.
The second LOI deals with long term cooperation between MBDA, Thales and WZU in the field of Missile system logistics. Under the agreement, WZU will be the primary point of contact for the Polish Ministry of Defence for logistics, training and services related to the “Wisla” system. WZU will manage Integrated Logistic Support activities at system level and management of the repair activities with the companies responsible for the components of the Wisla sub-systems.
Additionally, WZU will be responsible for the assembly, integration and maintenance of all the support vehicles of the “Wisla” system.
